Introduction

Architecture as a course has a lot of practical and technical work and less of theory. Studying architecture will give you a thorough understanding and appreciation of the structures in which we live today. But it will also let you look to the future of design and how ideas can be created and implemented. However, studying architecture can be quite expensive and bone-breaking for some, and in such a situation, scholarships will benefit the students hugely. USA and UK have some of the finest universities to study architecture, and these universities also provide generous scholarships.

Architecture Scholarships in the US

  • Kate Neal Kinley memorial fellowship- Scholarships include an award of up to US$20,000 in architectural design and one of up to $9,000 in art, architecture, dance, landscape architecture, theatre, or urban and regional planning for US students. Open to graduates of the College of Fine and Applied Arts of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and graduates of similar institutions of equal educational standing. These fellowships are to be used towards the costs of advanced study in the US or abroad.
  • Yale school of architecture- Open to both US and non-US citizens who wish to study at the Yale School of Architecture, who demonstrate financial need.
  • The American Institute of architects- Every year, the Foundation awards thousands of dollars in architecture scholarships to high school students; to architecture students in NAAB-accredited undergraduate and graduate degree programs; to Architect Registration Exam (ARE) candidates who are working toward becoming licensed architects; and to licensed architects pursuing educational enrichment opportunities.
  • Illinois school of architecture- With sincere gratitude for the generosity of our alumni and benefactors the Illinois School of Architecture provides nearly $1,000,000 each year to enrich and support undergraduates and graduate students, professionals and our faculty through endowed gifts and annual donations. Undergraduate scholarships and prizes support students both in the states and abroad and for day-to-day study as well as unique studios and projects.

Architecture scholarships in the UK

  • PhD in Architecture Studentship at the University of Strathclyde – Studentships available to cover the home tuition fee, or international fee for many awards, as well as a maintenance grant, for up to three and a half years. All applicants should have (or expect to obtain) a first/upper second class degree in a relevant discipline and demonstrate a keen interest in pursuing research in this field.
  • Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Wren Insurance Association Scholarships – Five scholarships worth £5,000 each are available to support outstanding students. The latter has the potential to make a significant contribution to the field of architecture. Applicants must be enrolled in a RIBA-validated Part 2 professional qualification course in the UK and be starting their final year in September (enrollment year).
  • Architectural Association School of Architecture – Scholarships are offered to first, second and fourth-year applicants who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.
