Attributes good quality education should entail

The United Nations, in September of 2015, ratified 17 eminent Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs which would act as a prototype for individual nations. Of these 17 pillars of SDGs, the 4th one is of Quality Education which promotes lifelong learning by ensuring equitable and inclusive education. This particular SDG ensures that children from all strata and income groups receive an equal and quality education. However, what it means to provide quality education is still under the shadows. According to Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, “Education must fully assume its central role in helping people to forge more just, peaceful and tolerant societies.”
The aim of Quality Education is to educate students in a manner that they become a proactive and productive member of the society through the pedagogically and developmentally sound education that they receive. Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) and Education International (EI) describe Quality Education as- “A quality education is one that focuses on the whole child — the social, emotional, mental, physical, and cognitive development of each student regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or geographic location. It prepares the child for life, not just for testing.”
There are some key elements that make up the basis for good quality education, here are some of them:
1. Teacher and teaching method
The teacher plays an important role in imparting quality education. The teaching method used by the teacher should be curated in a way that receives active participation from all students. The teacher has access to the teaching materials which is a prerequisite for a well-structured curriculum.
2. Content of Education Provided
The curriculum is an eminent part of the development of quality education. It should go beyond the basic literacy and numeracy skills and educate the students about other important social issues. It should include awareness about hygiene, knowledge about diseases, nutrition, gender equality, and knowledge about the nation and international concerns.
3. Learning environment
The learning environment ensures a sound learning environment for the students. One where they feel secure, protected, inspired, and healthy to visit every day. A good learning environment is all-inclusive for minorities as well as students with disabilities. It should be a place to learn respect for each other and the surrounding nature.
There are many other things that go into ensuring quality education. It is important for every individual to receive a quality education and excel as human beings, an all-inclusive part secretary-General ensures.
