Exchange programmes from Indian universities to US universities

Student exchange programmes are one of the best ways to experience international education without spending a lot of time away from your native place. They greatly help in the improvement of your language skills. Moreover, one can experience independence and develop a global perspective on various worldly matters. The experience is life-enriching. Student exchange programmes are generally between six months to a year in length but sometimes the duration may differ depending on the nature of the programme. The cost of an international student exchange programme is decided by the organising entities (external organisations or schools and universities), as applicable.
Some common types of student exchange programmes are as follows:
· Short-Term Programmes- These are about 8-weeks long and are often led by the faculty. Under this category, some are summer semester programmes with programmes providers, while some programmes are direct enrolling programmes during summer or winter terms. Moreover, some may be non-credit programmes, while others are optional off-campus components of on-campus courses.
· Faculty-Led Programmes- Here, a faculty member from the home university accompanies students on the programmes. These are intensive programmes and the duration varies across different institutions.
· Exchange Programmes at a College or University- Such programmes are the result of an agreement between two international partner universities. In each agreement, there can be details about credit transfer, housing, the application process, support for students, etc. For most exchanges, students pay the tuition and fees to their home universities and only have to pay for accommodation in their host countries.
Several Indian universities have tie-ups in the US. Some of them are as follows:
· Premier B-schools like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Banglore and IIM Calcutta provide their MBA students with the opportunity to pursue dual-degree programs wherein the students can study for the last 2 terms (Term 5, Term 6) at an international partnering institute. On successful completion of the course, the students are awarded 2 degrees: an MBA from the respective IIM and a MIM from the respective international university.
· Private universities like Amity University and Lovely Professional University also have tie-ups with several top universities across the USA. Every year, the universities host international students from various foreign partner universities and also send their students for studying under Student Exchange Programmes to other countries.
· Top tech-colleges like VIT, Manipal and SRM also have such exchanges, named Semester Abroad Programmes (SAP).
