Modern-day Varsity Sport

Varsity sports are arguably the most engaging things of high-school for students. Tough sports like baseball, football, and athletic events help shape the athletes into a stronger individual both physically and mentally. Students, especially boys, are encouraged to participate in these sports while they are in high school. However, not everyone is jacked up and has a physique for such strength-based sports but it doesn’t take away the fact that they have a thing for engaging in games and are passionate about it. What if including the digitalised version of sports in the varsity could help? Can video games become a modern-day varsity sport?

A researcher from the Northeastern University explained in one of their news how video games like Overwatch, League of Legends, Rocket League, and Hearthstone have levelled up to varsity level. This would mean that all the students who have grown playing video games and are deeply addicted to them can now play them for their high school as a proper varsity sport. The competition levels will surely be challenged when game masters of different games will step in to compete for their schools. Esports is the modern-day revelation of the high schools which will surely bring a lot more participation out of the students and will help in engaging them onto better things. It will help discover new talents and skills because of the variety it brings into varsity games. It gives a great platform to students who once felt left out or had an introvert instinct. It allows them to step up and showcase their gaming skills to all of their schools and even to the world.

Varsity sports were pretty restricted to just strength-based and physical games which made it difficult to approach for students who aren’t very strong physically. Approving Esports in varsity widens the scope quite a bit for that section of students and allows them to participate and compete with the physically stronger students and even beat them with their skills.
