The New Education Policy (NEP) launched on July 29th, 2020 replaces the 34-year-old Indian National Education Policy. It aims to transform India into a knowledge society and global knowledge superpower. It will help set up a new quality of value-based education.

Aspects that will ease admissions into international universities

Interdisciplinary approachThe NEP suggests creating public universities with holistic and multidisciplinary education. Indian institutions will now focus on research and innovation by setting up incubation centres and building focus on social sciences research. This will make admissions for students into foreign universities easier. The reason being foreign universities focus more on a practical-based education rather than the traditional theoretical type of education.

Graduation degree — With the introduction of the NEP students may now have a 3 or 4-year graduation, with multiple exit options. This means that students can either leave their graduation course mid-term and still earn a diploma or complete the entire 4-year course. Since foreign universities usually consider 4 years of education, Indian students would complete 3 years of graduation and an additional year of diploma. However, with the NEP 2020, students will directly be able to get admission.

Flexible Education — The NEP will now allow subjects like Philosophy, Indology, Art, Dance, Theatre, Sociology to be introduced in all higher education institutions. This will allow students to develop skills and have an all-around approach in various fields. It will be helpful for students applying to international universities as foreign education committees look for students who focus on subjects beyond the traditional maths and sciences.

Internship — The NEP also has provisions for children to start internships from grade 6. Under this provision, students will have the opportunity to take up internships of 10 days with local trades or crafts. This will make students much more experienced and open a wide variety of career aspects. This will always give a student an edge while applying for admission in any foreign university.

In conclusion, after the implementation of the NEP students will have both academic and vocational skills. Such vocational skills will enhance their qualifications and flexibilities. International universities always prefer better-qualified students to represent their student body.
